Course Description:

Agenda

  1. Workshop Kick-Off (45 mins.)
    1. Objectives of the training - Introductions
    2. Norms (for how we will work together), Fill out the MBTI profile
    3. Patterns (We as human beings have patterns of behaviors)
  2. "Teaming" Overview (2 hours)
    1. Teams defined - Stages of team/group development
    2. Decision making options for teams
  3. Types of teams Tapping the Creativity of Teams (3 hours)
    1. Principles of Creative Thinking
    2. Deferral of Judgment
    3. Divergent and Convergent Thinking
    4. Guidelines for effective Divergence
  4. Problem Solving process in teams Leveraging "People's Styles" to be more effective (2.5 hours)
    1. We will use the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to help individuals understand how they are similar and/or different from other team members. Knowing how you are similar or different helps people know how to better communicate and relate with their fellow team members. The MBTI is the most effective profile to help people understand how they take in information, process it, and make decisions. This is the most comprehensive profile of it kind and is helpful to both team members and team leaders to help teams understand better how to work with and leverage the differences that exist on the team.)
  5. Factors Influencing Team Effectiveness (2.0 hrs.) (This module is an educational piece about the key components of effective teaming.)

  6. External Influences Conflict Resolution (2.0 hrs.)
    1. (This module will cover the various conflict resolution styles that individuals typically use when dealing with conflict. Each style has advantages and disadvantages. There are various times when any style is appropriate. Many individuals get "stuck" using only one or at best two of the possible styles when confronted with a conflict situation. We will cover each style and the times when each style might be appropriate. We will also cover how to facilitate and negotiate in a conflict situation.)
  7. Team Development Activity (2.0 hrs.)
    1. (We will use a "Team Development" activity as a method of getting people to work together. During this activity we will demonstrate the advantages of working as a team to accomplish a task, and show concrete data as to how well the teams perform (or not perform). After working through this activity, each person will know how he/she performed relative to the team. Teams will get a chance to examine how they utilized the input of each team member.
